After the lavender field of Provence, the wheat field of Val d’Oise and the creeks of Marseille, Simon Porte Jacquemus, used to dazzle us with his fashion shows in picturesque and bucolic settings, this time took us far, far away, outside of France, to the Hawaiian archipelago to unveil his new Spring/Summer 2022 offering.
“The islands of Hawaii, with their awe-inspiring landscapes, varied climates and unspeakable biodiversity, stood out as the perfect complement to the exuberant ‘Le Splash’ collection”, Simon Porte Jacquemus wrote of the fashion show in a post shared on Instagram.
Along a beach on the island of Oʻahu, with the majestic Ko’olau mountain range in the background, a long blue carpet served as the runway for the Jacquemus collection, aptly named “Le Splash” – the fashion show was delayed by about an hour, due to rain.
Inspired by Hawaii, its colors, its culture, but also its marine life threatened by tourism and climate change, the collection featured a summer palette par excellence, with neon green, safari beige, ocean blue, sherbet peach, lemon, orange or flamingo pink. Silhouettes were of course casual, including knit tank tops, deconstructed jumpsuits, suit jackets with surf gear-inspired double zippers, life jackets transformed into quilted vests, cargo shorts, knit dresses, overalls and many pool-ready pieces.
Jacquemus also introduced a new collaboration with artist Tanya Lyons, designed to look like water droplets. These glass embellishments were then cascaded onto several pieces, including suits.
Terry cloth sandals, dive bags, and new iterations of the brand’s signature ‘Le Chiquito‘ and ‘Le Bambino‘ bags also made appearances.
