Used to taking us to unusual and picturesque spots for his off-calendar shows – a lavender field or a heavenly beach in Hawaii – the new season of Jacquemus is no exception.
For his Fall/Winter 2022 collection, Simon Porte Jacquemus landed in the Camargue, in the white salt hills with the pink lake of Salin-de-Giraud on the horizon, nearly 40 kilometers from the historic city of Arles.
This dazzling white setting resonated like an echo of the many looks presented in a beige and cream color palette, far from the Pop vibes of his last years.
“I started working on the collection with an obsession to start from nothing, like a blank page“, said Jacquemus. “Like a blank page“, hence the title – and major inspiration – of the collection ‘’Le Papier’’ (The Paper). The sculptor Alberto Giacometti and his recent engagement were two other sources of inspiration.
Echoing the salt hills, the collection was largely drenched in neutral tones of white and beige, bridged with subtle inserts of rust, olive green and brown.
For men, the designer offered more relaxed silhouettes, with casual suits, knits, technical but minimalist coats loaded with utilitarian details, plush overcoats and cargo pants.
For women, he used tulle to create tight drapes on dresses, crop tops, structured suits, ruched sheer white dresses held together by straps.
And if some of the women’s dresses revisited the traditional wedding dress, the men were offered veils or saw their suits twisted with white tulle. A nod for sure to his upcoming wedding with Marco Maestri.
