For his Erdem Pre-Fall 2023, Erdem Moralıoğlu drew inspiration from the second half of the 19th century when the dawning impact of industrialisation was on the horizon. This was an era of significant tension and change where received wisdoms and strictness of former times were open for questioning.
This was an equally fertile era for sartorial experimentation, and based on these perspectives of change Moralıoğlu played with various codes of Victoriana throughout the collection. Society meets utility. Handwork meets machine technology.
Thus, eveningwear was combined with daywear and the structure of undergarments were visible as dresses and outerwear. Moralioglu also played with volumes to heighten and reduce the formality and informality of tailoring while bows, gloves and jewellery brang a graphic element to looks.
