Summer is often synonymous with carefree, colorful, and laid-back attitude. And, that’s what we find this season – is it a surprise? – at Dsquared2, a torrid and summery atmosphere of the vacations at the beach.
Dean and Dan Caten, the design brothers, who wake board and wake surf in Mykonos, brought their surfboards to the runway, blowing an intense freshness into their collection in a kaleidoscope of colors.
“Because surf is sexier, cooler, hotter”, they said. “It’s about freedom, strength, being in the ocean. There’s lots of mystique around it – ideas and lifestyle, images, music, a whole lotta culture. Very inspiring”.
Models were dressed as beach bohemians, surfers and glistening underwater creatures. An ode to beachwear manifested itself through micro-bikinis, shiny bra tops and swimwear in the form of printed shorts, pants and skirts. And when on land, Dsquared2 surfers opt for draped dresses, skirts and shirts splashed with stripes and checks, paired with oversized hats slung behind the shoulders as well as shoulder and beach bags. All of this was done in a mix of colors and materials, from sun-drenched pastels to the shiny effects of sequins and patent fabrics, to an explosion of brightly colored check patterns.
