The change of seasons has always been a source of inspiration for the fashion world, and COS took this as a cue to bring forth a collection that marries tradition and innovation. This Fall/Winter 2023, the brand participated in the New York Fashion Week, showcasing a collection that evolved its archetypes by exploring contrasts and enhancing the timeless principles that define it. At the heart of the collection lies a dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and longevity, with pieces that seamlessly transition from day to night.
The event unfurled at the Classic Car Club in Manhattan, against a backdrop of the Hudson River and a setting sun. This picturesque setting was juxtaposed with a rich, deep brown runway, metallic sculptural shapes, and galvanized steel curves that let in gentle light, encapsulating the ambiance of the collection – a blend of elegance and power. As the models strutted down the runway, serene and confident, they adorned 43 looks that remained true to the brand’s principles: uncompromising quality, timeless design, and versatility for both day and evening.
The collection highlighted a revisitation of classic cuts and an exploration of innovative craftsmanship. Tailored trousers were refined, vests were reimagined, and structured shoulders exuded confidence, contrasting with fluid silk maxi-lengths that elongated the silhouettes. This juxtaposition displayed a bold bias towards combining utility with beauty. To accentuate this, hoods, oversized fringed scarves, and other versatile pieces added a final touch to the clean, knit looks, transforming them into evening outfits with the addition of fringes on capes and dresses or a scarf tied around the neck.
Marking the occasion was the launch of the COS Atelier Fall/Winter 2023 collection, the third capsule of its kind. This collection showcased a complex, hand-crocheted look in RMS (Responsible Mohair Standard) mohair, complemented by a wool jacket adorned with delicate, fine leather tassels made from fabric scraps. This illustrated the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation, grounded in sustainability.
Inspired by nature, the color palette featured soothing neutral tones that highlighted rich earthy browns and custom prints, while matte textures met metallic reflections. Quality and longevity were central to the collection, with adjustable elements ensuring a well-tailored classic suit fit perfectly, and reversible pieces bringing more versatility. Each garment served a function, and the exploration of textures, from soft leather to thick knit through chevron, elevated everyday pieces. Special care was given to the materials, with over 92% of the collection made with materials from more sustainable sources; the high-quality knits made from recycled and GCS-certified cashmere attested to this.
A selection of pieces from the collection presented during the show is now available in COS stores and on cos.com, with limited quantities available throughout the season. The COS Atelier collection will be available from October.
