Coperni, the Parisian label founded in 2013, once again made a splash with its Spring/Summer 2023 collection presented in the textile room of the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris and its performance with Bella Hadid.
With its usual sensual and modern style, Coperni reinterpreted the men’s suit in hybrid garments, combining layered jackets or integrated into the back of resolutely feminine fitted dresses. There were also asymmetrical mini-dresses with side slits and lingerie-inspired details, bra cups reinterpreted as shoulder pads, and low-rise cargo pants that play it cool.
But the highlight of the show was the memorable performance featuring Bella Hadid. The American top model appeared on the catwalk, appearing naked as a blank canvas in front of two professionals including Dr. Manel Torres, inventor of the spray fabric, charged with spraying her body with a spray fabric. The substance – a patented spray-on fabric developed by a London-based company called Fabrican – looked like spider webs at first, until the fibrous layers thickened, instantly drying into a pebbled fabric and effectively mummifying the model.
With this futuristic and visually impressive project that took less than 7 minutes, the brand reaffirmed its innovative approach and forever marked the modern history of fashion. The other highlight of the show was the solid gold version of the brand’ Swipe bag which – all 1kg of it – will be melted down after the show. It was created by an artisan goldsmith named Gabriele Veneri in Italy.
“It’s an homage to women in general, and the evolution of the morphology and the body through centuries”, said Arnaud Vaillant and Sebastien Meyer, Coperni’s designers.
