Wes Gordon’s starting point for his Spring/Summer 2023 Carolina Herrera collection – which took place in a gilded, chandelier-filled ballroom at The Plaza Hotel in New York City, where the house founder put on a show here herself back in 1984 – was Frances Hodgson Burnett’s ‘’The Secret Garden’’ – a favorite book from his childhood – and its “romantic depiction of nature and beauty”, according to the show notes.
Besides a range of stunning floral prints, there were floral knit ensembles and feminine corseted denim pieces, tailored taffeta suits, maximalist evening wear and for a glamorous touch, a candy embroidery red-and-pink plunge front bustier gown, and and a poppy red column with dramatic rosette, already worn by Kate Hudson at the Toronto Film Festival last Saturday.
