To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the brand, creative director Wes Gordon chose the new 89th Street outpost of Salon 94 to host the Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2022 show.

The collection presented a fresh tribute to the glamour, fun and irreverence of the early 1980s, more precisely Spring/Summer 1983, one of Gordon’s personal favorites.
The Spring/Summer 1983 collection contained a lot of black and white play, which Gordon replicated this season to refreshing effect. The business casual portion of the collection included a red thigh-length dress with a giant gold circle ornament in the front, or terrific tuxedo reinterpretations, with expressively sleeved shirts and high-waisted, tapered, and cropped pants. Bralettes and shorts were youthful touches, in line with trends on other runways.
Of course, Herrera’s ball gowns were part of the collection. The gowns mostly came in pink, red, and black, and for the first time, all of the accessories were also Herrera, including fun beaded hoop earrings and spectator pumps.
“Our woman is not a wallflower, she’s not shy; she loves getting dressed and expressing herself. There is always that component of chic but she plays with her clothes. It’s not timid”, Gordon said.
