The Swiss watchmaker has unveiled the Chronomat Erling Haaland Signature limited-edition collection, which features genuine meteorite dials and pays homage to the football superstar. This collaboration between the Grenchen-based manufacturer and the Manchester City striker represents an intriguing intersection of sports celebrity and haute horlogerie. Each timepiece features a genuine meteorite dial, making it unique.

Considering Haaland’s meteoric rise through European football, the partnership feels natural. Since breaking through at just 15 years old in Norway’s second division, the striker has become one of the most prolific goal scorers in modern football. His record-breaking performances for Manchester City, including a historic treble in his debut Premier League season, have cemented his status among the game’s elite.
Breitling structured this release around two distinct models, both bearing the unmistakable aesthetic of the Chronomat line. The first, the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 Erling Haaland, is housed in stainless steel with a platinum bezel. Limited to 500 pieces, this model features the brand’s Caliber 32 movement and offers GMT functionality alongside the meteorite dial, which is the defining characteristic of the collection.

The second model, the Chronomat B01 42 Erling Haaland, features an 18-karat red gold case. Limited to 250 pieces, this chronograph features Breitling’s in-house Caliber 01 movement, which provides a substantial 70-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, which is engraved with “ONE OF 250” and Haaland’s jersey number, 9.
Both models incorporate personal touches reflecting Haaland’s involvement in the design process. The striker’s initials appear on the central seconds hand, and the casebacks feature an engraving of his signature goal celebration pose. “I wanted something one of a kind,” Haaland explains. “The Chronomat just clicked. It’s clean and all metal, or you can go bold with the dial and add a rubber strap. And the meteorite makes each one different. You’re never going to see the same watch on someone else’s wrist.”

The meteorite material chosen for these dials has remarkable provenance. Sourced from the Muonionalusta meteorite, this cosmic material was formed in the heart of a dying star over 4.5 billion years ago. It crashed to Earth nearly one million years ago and now lies scattered across the glacial moraines of northern Sweden.
Muonionalusta is particularly special because of its Widmanstätten pattern, a naturally occurring crystalline structure that forms only during extremely slow cooling in the vacuum of space. This creates interlaced bands that are visible to the naked eye and impossible to replicate artificially. The meteorite’s composition includes iron and nickel as primary elements, along with trace amounts of cobalt and rare silicates that are not commonly found in terrestrial rocks.

Some fragments contain stishovite, a high-pressure mineral formed during cosmic impacts that rarely appears on Earth. This geological rarity adds another layer of exclusivity to an already limited production run.
Haaland’s involvement went beyond merely lending his name to the project. The footballer actively contributed to material selection and design decisions, working closely with Breitling’s team to bring his vision to life. “Erling plays like he’s from another planet, so when we talked about materials, a meteorite dial was the perfect fit,” notes Georges Kern, Breitling’s CEO. “It’s a watch as powerful and singular as he is.”

The footballer’s appreciation for the final result is clear: “Seeing this watch come to life was something else. The dial, the engravings, the initials—every detail told a part of my story. I’m excited for people to wear it and feel that same connection.”
Beyond the public releases, Breitling created an ultra-exclusive “ONE OF 5” edition reserved for Haaland and his inner circle. This private version features an 18-karat red gold case, a meteorite dial, and a transparent caseback that reveals the Manufacture Caliber 01 movement. The case is engraved with Haaland’s name and jersey number, and the caseback displays an image of his iconic goal celebration pose.

This private edition represents a growing trend among luxury watch brands to create ultra-limited pieces for celebrity partners and their inner circle. This approach builds exclusivity while maintaining the commercial appeal of broader limited editions.
The Chronomat line holds significant historical importance for Breitling, as it marked the brand’s return to mechanical chronographs in 1983, when the market was dominated by quartz. Inspired by a timepiece created for Italy’s Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team, the Chronomat established Breitling’s modern design language with its robust proportions, rotating bezel with rider tabs, and distinctive rouleaux bracelet.
The Haaland Signature models maintain these core design elements while introducing a cosmic material that sets them apart. The meteorite dials represent Breitling’s first use of this material, expanding the brand’s palette of exotic substances.

Both models are presented in wooden boxes with signed thank-you notes from Haaland, emphasizing the personal nature of this collaboration. Depending on the model, the watches are available with either steel or gold rouleaux bracelets or black rubber straps that echo the rouleaux pattern.
The pricing positions these pieces firmly in the luxury sports watch segment, where celebrity collaborations have become commonplace. However, the meteorite material and limited production numbers provide genuine exclusivity that goes beyond mere marketing appeal.
