This season, Blumarine girls of Nicola Brognano, who took over the reins of the brand in February 2020, transformed into a mermaid. But far from the romantic and beautiful mermaid of Disney Studios, Nicola Brognano’s mermaid was “intriguing and sexier, less pop, much dirtier”.
The Blumarine mermaids thus walked the runway in dangerously low-rise, acid-washed denim jeans paired with sheer tops, tight corsets and even cowl-neck tops in shredded denim revealing the bare flesh underneath. There were also jersey frocks ruched and draped to hug the body and liquid gowns with plunging necklines to further reveal it while some mermaids can’t resist wearing shell-shaped bras in oxidized metal when they haven’t turned into a gothic sea creature, swapping the rose, one of the label’s symbols of voluptuous sensuality, for crystal-studded crosses.
