Some watches tell time; others make you stop and stare. The Bell & Ross BR-05 36MM Blue Diamond Eagle belongs firmly in the latter category—not because it shouts, but because it quietly pulls you in, like a clear night in the countryside when you suddenly realize just how many stars are up there.

Bell & Ross has always drawn inspiration from the sky. The brand built its reputation on cockpit instruments and bold geometry, translating aeronautical dials into watches worn far from any runway. This foundation is what makes the BR-05 36MM Blue Diamond Eagle so interesting. The diamond-studded dial emphasizes the versatility of the BR-05 design without losing the identity that made the collection worthwhile in the first place.

A redesigned 36 mm case built for modern proportions

The BR-05 was introduced in 2019 with a 40mm case as Bell & Ross’s answer to the trend of luxury integrated bracelet sports watches. In tune with contemporary trends favoring more compact, unisex diameters, Bell & Ross presented a 36mm version in 2025. Rather than simply reducing the size, the brand reworked the proportions from scratch. The 36mm case, with a slim height of 8.7mm, was redesigned to achieve balanced proportions.

Upholding the sports watch mandate of continuous, flowing lines that integrate the case and bracelet, the first link of the bracelet forms part of the case. The result is a silhouette that feels complete rather than compact—the kind of watch that makes a big impression but has a small footprint, a difficult balance to pull off.

The square case with softened corners remains unmistakably BR-05 with its signature “round in a square” geometry, rounded corners, and a raised bezel secured by four polished screws. Brushed surfaces and polished bevels extend from the case to the integrated bracelet and finish with a folding clasp. The water resistance is 100 meters, which is serious enough to mean business, even if the dial is anything but utilitarian.

Aventurine glass and the origin of its starfield effect

The dial is what will make people stop and ask about this watch. Bell & Ross built it around aventurine glass, a material with a genuinely fascinating backstory. It is believed that aventurine was created in the 17th century on the island of Murano, where Venetian glassmakers worked. The accidental fall of copper filings into molten glass is said to be the origin of its invention — a fortunate accident that contributed to the reputation of Venetian glassmakers.

The optical properties of aventurine are difficult to replicate by any other means. With its suspended metallic inclusions, it creates a starfield effect that appears to come alive under changing light. On the wrist, the dial shifts as light hits it from different angles — an effect that photographs only partially capture.

Working with this material is not straightforward. Aventurine glass is highly sensitive to temperature variations and prone to micro-cracks, so every cutting and drilling operation requires specialized tooling and a calibrated touch. The dial of the BR-05 Blue Diamond Eagle consists of a rigid brass plate that forms the dial’s structure. An aventurine glass plate, cut with micron-level precision, is added to this plate. Bell & Ross calls this deep blue Goldfluss blue, a color that sits somewhere between midnight and indigo and holds the constellation exactly as the brand intends.

Diamond setting that recreates the Aquila constellation

This is where the engineering becomes genuinely impressive. The Blue Diamond Eagle concept dates back to the BR-S family, a smaller and less sleek interpretation of the brand’s circle-within-a-square design language. There, seven precisely placed diamonds first traced the Aquila constellation on a midnight-blue dial. That earlier series laid the groundwork for what the brand is now executing at a much higher level.

Eighteen diamonds are used across the dial. Twelve comprise the hour markers, and seven form the constellation Aquila. The 2:00 hour marker pulls double duty. Visible in the Northern Hemisphere during summer and early autumn, the Aquila constellation is also called the Eagle constellation. It is recognizable by the three aligned stars that form the bird’s head. Altair, whose name comes from the Arabic word for “flying eagle,” is the brightest star in this constellation and one of the vertices of the Summer Triangle.

Placing those diamonds into the aventurine is a technical feat in itself. Inserting diamonds into glass requires a blend of microengineering and hands-on gem-setting expertise. Each stone sits in a custom four-prong brass setting and is inserted into drilled holes with tolerances so tight that any miscalculation could stress the glass too much. The largest diamond, positioned between 10 and 11 o’clock, represents Altair, the bird’s head, and the constellation’s brightest point. Three medium-sized diamonds trace the wings and tail, and three more complete the silhouette.

Bruno Belamich, co-founder and creative director of Bell & Ross, describes it this way: “The new BR-05 36MM stands out as an exceptional creation—a watch with singular character, precious by nature, whose sovereign elegance is revealed in every detail. Its symbolic, poetic, and almost dreamlike dimension makes it far more than a timepiece—a true work of horological art.”

While that quote reads like marketing copy, looking at the dial in person makes it harder to argue with.

Movement performance and what it means at this price point

Bell & Ross powers this watch with the BR-CAL.329, an automatic caliber that runs at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and is equipped with 25 jewels and a 54-hour power reserve. The movement draws on Sellita SW300-1 architecture, a solid, well-proven Swiss platform.

At this price point, however, a fully manufacture-developed caliber would be more fitting. That said, the reliability record holds up well in daily use. The solid caseback is probably the right call; there is nothing mechanical to rival what is happening on the dial side. The solid caseback features a laser-engraved Aquila constellation, connecting the exterior artistry to the mechanical core beneath. The functions are limited to hours, minutes, and seconds, and there is no date complication to disrupt the clean, open dial.

The eagle symbol and Bell & Ross aeronautical identity

Bell & Ross did not choose the eagle arbitrarily. With its wings outstretched, the bird represents Zeus’s eagle in Greek mythology. The eagle connects the heavens and humankind, and it perfectly symbolizes Bell & Ross’s aeronautical inspiration.

Above all else, Bell & Ross is an aeronautics-inspired tool watch brand. As with most aeronautical companies, space is the final frontier. The Blue Diamond Eagle aligns with this idea, building on the brand’s core while extending it toward something more celestial and less instrument-panel.

It captures what Bell & Ross has always pursued in a different form: the vastness of space that astronauts and pilots navigate. Framing a jewelry-driven piece through that lens gives it a coherence that purely decorative diamond watches often lack.

The Bell & Ross BR-05 36mm Blue Diamond Eagle retails for CHF 4,500, USD 5,000, or SGD 6,800. At that price, it occupies a genuinely interesting position. It is accessible enough for serious collectors yet distinct enough to stand apart. The watch makes the case that you do not need to spend six figures to wear a timepiece that is both technically and aesthetically sophisticated.
