Balenciaga has opened its first store in Cancún, Mexico. Located in the prestigious La Isla Shopping Village, the new 6243-square-foot (580 m²) store showcases the brand’s latest men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, as well as a wide range of shoes, bags, accessories, eyewear and jewelry.
The store’s design showcases Balenciaga’s innovative Raw Architecture concept, which seamlessly blends elements of industrial, brutalist and public space design. This unique approach creates an immersive shopping experience, with intentionally unfinished surfaces and a distinctive aesthetic that sets it apart from traditional retail spaces.
The two-story structure immediately catches the attention of passersby with its striking glass corner storefront, matte black facade and front-lit Balenciaga sign. Once inside, customers are greeted by expansive brushed concrete floors reminiscent of sidewalk tiles, while the walls and shelving are made of folded metal and patinated concrete, adding to the store’s raw and industrial feel.
Overhead, a carefully curated selection of ceiling grids, lighting systems and visible technical fixtures enhance the store’s overall aesthetic, creating a captivating and visually striking environment. The space is further complemented by raw metal tables, hanging pipe racks and a recycled leather bench, all of which contribute to the warehouse feel of the store.
The opening of the Cancún store marks an important milestone for Balenciaga, as it represents a significant expansion into the Mexican market. It follows the recent opening of the brand’s first standalone store in Chicago, Illinois, and the debut earlier this year of its impressive three-story flagship store in the newly renovated Toraya Ginza building in Ginza, Tokyo.
