Swedish brand Axel Arigato has just released a new silhouette: the “Slow Runner“, a reimagined version of the brand’s “Marathon” model, comes in understated black and white options.
Creative director Jens Werner explained the thought process behind the shoe. “The ‘Slow Runner’ began as a project that was purely based around naive, uncomplicated design – a deliberate dismantling of the past, to create something entirely new for the brand.”

The “Slow Runner” takes its foundation from Axel Arigato’s established “Marathon” sneaker, but transforms it through careful reduction rather than addition. The resulting silhouette features a flat rubber outsole complemented by thoughtfully layered leather, suede and nubuck panels that create subtle textural contrasts.
Jens Werner emphasized a focus on purity in the redesign. The approach involved stripping back elements to create a sneaker that feels both fresh and recognizable – a balance of contradiction and familiarity. The final design embodies this philosophy, delivering a streamlined yet tactile aesthetic.
To launch the new “Slow Runner,” Axel Arigato commissioned photographer Linus Morales to create a campaign that taps into the emotional aspects of the design. The resulting images tap into childhood memories, particularly the universal experience of playing musical chairs.

According to Werner, the design taps into memory and nostalgia – key themes for the brand this season – while maintaining a forward-looking perspective. The shoe balances heritage and innovation, fusing technical precision with an effortless, uncomplicated aesthetic.
Available now at axelarigato.com and Axel Arigato stores for $365 USD, the “Slow Runner” is a statement in minimalism.
