In an era where fashion seems to continuously oscillate between a relentless pursuit of novelty and a nostalgic longing for the past, Italian fashion luminary Anna Dello Russo steps into the scene with an innovative take that melds the two. Her latest collaboration with iconic denim brand Seven For All Mankind, titled “Seven For All Mankind by Anna Dello Russo“, is a masterstroke of balance – a dance between contradictions.
Reimagining the modern wardrobe, Dello Russo’s seven-piece capsule collection teems with 90’s reminiscent body-conscious styles crafted in tandem with today’s appetite for glamour. The collaboration marries Dello Russo’s affection for contradicting elements – the everyday and the extraordinary, the understated and the opulent. It’s this delicate interplay of contrasts that breathes life into her collection, launched today.
“I’ve always found allure in the unexpected pairings“, shared Dello Russo in a recent interview. “For this collection, I juxtaposed body-conscious styles with the casual, effortless denim. I wanted to push the boundaries, to add some sparkle to the mundane. Hence, the decision to embellish denim with Swarovski crystals“.
The collection is steeped in 90’s nostalgia, a nod to an era where body-conscious silhouettes reigned supreme. It serves as a counter-narrative to today’s penchant for oversized clothing. Dello Russo’s seven-piece capsule collection includes a lineup of sculpted, close-fitted jeans, shorts, a jumpsuit, a body-con dress, a cropped denim jacket and a tank top.
Dello Russo served as both creative director and stylist for the collection’s photo campaign, featuring top model Stella Maxwell and photographed by Luigi Murenu and Iango Henzi. The pieces from the Pre-Fall 2023 collection can be found at select stores, online and at well-known retailers such as Bloomingdale’s and Harrods. Prices range from $298 to $898.
Before venturing into this collaboration, Dello Russo had already established a solid portfolio of successful capsules with a variety of brands, including Yoox, Los Angeles streetwear brand RtA, Swedish retailer H&M, Atelier Swarovski and Max&Co.
Her collaboration with Seven For All Mankind was an exciting new chapter in her career following her departure from Vogue Japan. “My collaboration came after I exited Vogue Japan [as fashion editor at large]. That made me more free to do different experiences and collaborations”, Dello Russo explained.
With a twelve-year tenure as Vogue Italia’s fashion editor under her belt, Dello Russo has a well-established presence in the industry. She further solidified her position in 2018 with the publication of “AdR: Beyond Fashion”, a comprehensive fashion volume comprised of 10 mini books. This ambitious project included an array of photographs featuring clothing items she later auctioned at Christie’s for charitable causes, a children’s style pop-up book, and a section that mimicked the aesthetic of a traditional magazine.
