The two books ‘’The Teachings of Don Juan’’ by Carlos Castaneda and ‘’Desert Solitaire’’ by Edward Abbey were the inspiration for Joseph Altuzarra’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection that was just unveiled on the runways of New York Fashion Week.
“It began when I read the book ‘The Teachings of Don Juan’, which is a book that started the ‘New Age Movement’ and published in 1968. It’s about Shamanism and entering the magical realm. I think it got me thinking about where can we find magic in our lives and the intersection of reality and imagination. It was sort of a trip – almost a hallucinogenic trip”, Joseph Altuzarra told WWD.
For this season, he said he wanted to explore “this idea of a trip and nature as an entry point for psychedelic experiences”. This vision quest was displayed on the runway through preppy classics like striped shirts, twisted sweaters as well as practical and refined pieces, like the parka, and layered sporty looks paired with sneakers.
