Alberta Ferretti staged her Spring/Summer 2022 show in the garden of the handsomely restored cloister San Simpliciano in Milano where her models sauntered the runway under the double-column arcades.

Initially known for her delicate and evasive styles, draping and tucking techniques were back in Alberta Ferretti’s new collection. The volumes were soft and lengths were either very short or long and floating.
Alberta also played on a posh-hippie theme with multiple crocheted looks – fringed, knotted and always moving. Used in short dresses or longer sheaths and paired with centurion sandals or lace-up platforms.
The butterfly was the only print, seen as a symbol of rebirth and metamorphosis, but revisited as photo prints on a wrap skirt and a lace-edged slip dress, or as more impressionistic painterly patterns on a fluttery minidress.
Contrasting with the earthy tones of the daywear, the evening gowns sparkled with vivid jewel shades, from ruby to emerald and amethyst.
“It’s very feminine”, she said of her new collection, “sensual, but not vulgar”.
