| 🏃♂️ First adidas shoe built specifically for HYROX competition 💰 Priced at €275, targeting performance-focused athletes 🧪 Developed in Herzogenaurach innovation lab 🏆 Tested by 2x HYROX World Champion Tim Wenisch ⚡ Features Lightstrike Pro foam for energy return 🧱 Includes Energy Rim for heel stability 🦶 12mm drop optimized for hybrid biomechanics 🌍 HYROX grew from 650 participants in 2017 to 650,000 in 2024–25 |

For years, athletes competing in HYROX – the hybrid racing format that combines eight one-kilometer runs with eight functional workout stations—faced a specific, maddening problem. They had to choose between two very different types of footwear: cushioned, fast running shoes or flat, stable training shoes. Wearing the wrong shoe at the wrong time could cost valuable seconds, and in a sport where the difference between first and second place is often measured in seconds, that compromise mattered. adidas decided to address the issue head-on.

The Adizero Dropset Elite draws from two of the brand’s established footwear lines. The Adizero range is built around speed and has been worn by athletes who have claimed more than 200 victories and 29 world records. The Dropset line is designed for functional strength training and has helped athletes reach the top podiums in major fitness competitions. The new model combines both technologies into a single shoe. “Hybrid fitness is growing at a remarkable rate, but athletes have been forced to choose between the cushioning and energy return of a running shoe and the stability and support of a training shoe,” said Aimee Arana, Global SVP & GM of adidas Sportswear & Training. “We eliminated that compromise by combining the proven technology of our speed-focused Adizero line – which has helped athletes achieve over 200 victories and 29 world records – with the best of our Dropset technology. This combination produces a shoe that offers both cadence and power for this new era of athletic performance.“

This performance shoe wasn’t designed in a marketing meeting. adidas developed it over several months at its innovation lab in Herzogenaurach, Germany. They worked directly with a group of high-performance athletes, including Tim Wenisch, a 26-year-old German who has won the HYROX World Championship twice. Wenisch and other athletes, including Graham Halliday, Ella Wilkinson, Fabian Eisenlauer, Jana Lebenstedt, and Jennifer Muir, contributed real competition feedback that shaped the final design, from carpet grip to the kind of lateral control required for wall balls and sandbag lunges. The shoe debuted in competition when Wenisch won the HYROX Elite 15 Male Singles in Melbourne in December 2025. “When I wear the adidas Adizero Dropset Elite, I feel fast, stable, and in control,” said Wenisch. “The grip is excellent, and I feel supported throughout the race. This shoe allows me to reach a whole new level of confidence on the course. With it, I am more determined than ever to defend my title and become the world champion for the second consecutive year in Stockholm later this year.“

The technical choices behind the Adizero Dropset Elite are deliberate and specific. The Lightstrike Pro foam, drawn directly from the Adizero family, provides an ultra-light feel and strong energy return – the qualities that make elite marathon footwear so effective. The Energy Rim wraps around the heel, stabilizing the rear foot during strength movements. This feature is critical when an athlete is pushing a sled or lunging under load. The Continental™ rubber outsole with a diamond-pattern tread grips carpet and hard surfaces during sled pushes and pulls. The 12mm drop places the body in a biomechanical position suited for functional movements. The Footadapt sockliner, carried over from the Dropset 4, enhances proprioception, or the athlete’s sense of where their body is in space, during intense moments.
HYROX has grown from 650 participants in 2017 to over 650,000 competitors globally in 2024-25. This growth is largely driven by Gen Z and younger millennials, who treat athletic performance as a core part of their identity. The market that Adidas is targeting is not a niche market; it is a generation that wants footwear that can keep up with the demands they place on their bodies.

The Adizero Dropset Elite, priced at €275, will be available on adidas.com starting March 18th. The launch also strengthens adidas’s long-term partnership with ATHX, the official hybrid competition organizer. Together, they plan to bring the “Ultimate Fitness Experience” to new locations throughout the year.
