Jil Sander introduced the Kante bag line under Creative director Simone Bellotti for Fall 2026. The collection includes three designs: Flap, Shoulder and Tote. The official European website lists the Kante Flap Shoulder at €1,550 and Kante Shoulder at €1,750. The bags are sold through Jil Sander’s retail channels.

At Jil Sander, minimalism has always involved more than removing unnecessary details. The relationship between materials, proportions and construction remains central to the house’s identity. With the new Kante bag collection, Creative director Simone Bellotti examines how those principles can produce accessories that feel contemporary without abandoning the brand’s established aesthetic.

Introduced for Fall 2026, Kante arrives in three distinct styles, each defined by carefully considered geometry. Rather than relying on prominent logos or decorative hardware, the designs place their emphasis on silhouette, surface and volume.

The result is a collection that reflects Bellotti’s growing influence on the German fashion house while maintaining a recognizable sense of restraint.

The name Kante comes from the German word for “edge” or “corner.” It is a direct reference to the construction of the bags, whose angular outlines and defined contours establish their visual identity.

The German terminology also connects the collection to Jil Sander’s origins. Since its founding, the house has developed a reputation for disciplined design, precise tailoring and close attention to materials.

Bellotti approaches these characteristics through contrasts. His Fall 2026 collection considers the idea of home as an environment where structure and comfort coexist. Straight edges are balanced with curved surfaces, while controlled proportions accommodate softer elements.

For Kante, this approach translates into bags that appear carefully constructed without becoming excessively rigid.

An unexpected influence comes from American artist Richard Prince, particularly his “Hoods” series, which began around 1987.

The works incorporate automobile hoods associated with American cars from the 1960s and 1970s. Through their transformation into sculptural artworks, familiar industrial components take on different proportions and meanings.

Bellotti draws on their substantial forms and distinctive contours rather than reproducing their appearance literally.

The reference was previously explored in Jil Sander’s Spring 2026 presentation, establishing a connection between consecutive collections.

It also explains why the bags have a pronounced three-dimensional quality. Their construction is intended to be noticed from different angles, rather than appreciated only from the front.

Three Kante Bag styles with different purposes

The Kante Flap

The Flap is the most sharply defined design in the collection. Its structured body features angular lines and a compact profile.

Two material treatments offer different appearances: calf leather with a semi-gloss patent finish and soft suede treated with an airbrush effect.

The distinction is significant. One emphasizes the bag’s smooth surfaces, while the other introduces subtle variations in texture and colour.

The Kante Shoulder

The Shoulder takes a quieter approach, with slender handles and relatively understated proportions.

Crafted from glossy lambskin, it offers a softer interpretation of the collection’s geometric construction.

Its practical dimensions make it particularly relevant for readers seeking a luxury handbag suitable for regular use without excessive ornamentation.

The Kante Tote

The Tote is the most spacious option and is presented as a unisex design.

Made from glossy lambskin, it combines generous capacity with prominent sculptural edges. Its larger proportions make the relationship between volume and construction especially apparent.

Unlike the smaller styles, the Tote places greater emphasis on carrying space while retaining the collection’s architectural identity.

Kante offers an indication of how Bellotti intends to develop Jil Sander‘s accessories business.

Its defining characteristics are consistent across the range, but each design addresses a different practical requirement. This allows the collection to maintain a coherent identity without treating every handbag as an identical object in a different size.

The launch also reflects a wider interest in luxury accessories whose appeal depends on construction and material quality rather than conspicuous branding.

Available through Jil Sander‘s official website and selected boutiques, Kante provides a clear example of Bellotti’s approach: preserving the house’s design principles while introducing new forms that serve contemporary wardrobes.
