Hermès Spring 2027 was presented in Paris on October 3rd under womenswear Creative director Nadège Vanhée. The collection focused on lightweight construction across leather, silk, knitwear and tailoring. It included sheer dresses, technical outerwear, belts, silk scarves, handbags, boots and sandals. Vanhée has led Hermès womenswear for more than a decade.

Hermès has long built its reputation on materials with substance. Leather, riding references and precise utility remain central to the house, yet Hermès Spring 2027 approached those familiar elements from a noticeably lighter direction. Nadège Vanhée did not abandon the label’s established vocabulary. Instead, she reduced its apparent weight and opened many garments to air, transparency and more exposed areas of the body.

Presented inside the bright interior of the Garde Républicaine headquarters and cavalry barracks in Paris, the collection began with sheer dresses worn over graphic foundations. That opening established one of the season’s main ideas: clothes that reveal their construction rather than conceal it. Fine knit dresses, cropped tops and transparent skirts appeared beside field jackets, tailored coats and practical outer layers.

The contrast was particularly effective because Hermès is so closely associated with dense, durable materials. Here, calfskin could be extremely thin, while leather was also cut into narrow lattice-like strips and applied over mesh. Silk pongee gave parkas a lighter surface than their functional shape might suggest. Openwork knits provided another way of reducing visual density without making the clothes feel unfinished.

Vanhée also reconsidered proportion. Jackets included zippers that could alter sleeves, openings and hems, allowing one piece to take on different forms. Long sleeves were pushed above the elbow, while bandeau tops appeared with both trousers and very short bottoms. Cutouts introduced controlled sections of exposed skin. The result remained disciplined, even when the styling became more relaxed.

Color developed gradually through the collection. The first looks used ivory, cream and icy blue before moving toward camel, black, reddish brown and sand. Darker slate and chocolate shades then gave way to yellow, orange and several strong reds. The progression made the later looks feel more assertive without requiring excessive decoration.

Accessories were especially important because Vanhée concentrated on objects that already belong naturally to the Hermès wardrobe. Belts appeared in narrow versions, wide corset-like forms and practical belt bags. Similar leather elements were transferred to the wrist as substantial cuffs. Rather than treating these pieces as secondary details, the collection used them to organize silhouettes and connect different layers.

The silk scarf received a similar reassessment. Some were adapted into compact strapless tops. Others were pleated or inserted into small utility-inspired garments, allowing an established Hermès signature to become part of the clothing itself rather than simply an addition to it.

Handbags were present in a relatively restrained selection. Shapes ranged from compact structured designs to larger, softer formats, including bucket forms. Footwear followed the same balance of practicality and refinement, with suede boots and simple leather sandals appearing repeatedly.

What makes Hermès Spring 2027 notable is not a rejection of the house’s past but a shift in emphasis. Vanhée continues to work with leather, tailoring, scarves and functional details, yet she has made them less visually heavy. For a heritage company whose identity depends heavily on craft, that approach matters. It shows how established codes can be adjusted through material, proportion and construction rather than replaced for the sake of novelty.

The collection ultimately presents Hermès as a house willing to loosen its familiar structure without losing its precision. Spring 2027 feels more exposed, more colorful and physically lighter, but its strongest pieces still depend on the quiet technical control that has defined Vanhée’s tenure.
