For Richard Quinn Spring 2027, the London designer moved away from last season’s futuristic mood and returned to a more intimate ritual: getting dressed for an evening out. The setting resembled a private salon, with mirrored walls and glittering chandeliers creating the impression that the audience had stepped backstage into a luxurious fitting room.
That atmosphere framed a collection rooted in Quinn’s established vocabulary of high glamour. Black and ivory dominated, while flashes of yellow, pink and blue punctuated the lineup through floral appliqués, rosettes and satin. Feathered skirts brushed the floor beneath crystal-encrusted bodices, velvet columns opened into pale tulle and frothy skirts, and draped satin gowns were sharpened by long gloves.
The 1980s influence was clear, but never costume-like. Strong shoulders, oversized bows, sweeping skirts and glossy finishes referenced the decade’s appetite for drama, while exposed corsetry, visible boning and external hooks and eyes made the construction part of the visual language. Rather than hiding the mechanics of eveningwear, Quinn placed them on display.
That sense of control extended to the way each look was styled. The gowns appeared fully resolved, with gloves, shoes, jewelry and underpinnings treated as integral parts of the silhouette. Crystals followed the lines of seams, beadwork intensified around the waist and softened toward the hem, while sequins were layered in dense, overlapping formations. Even on the most embellished pieces, the structure of the garment remained visible.
Velvet emerged as one of the most important materials, particularly in fitted bodices and sculptural evening silhouettes. Drop waists also appeared repeatedly, while dramatic capes, feathered tiers and satin introduced movement. Floral motifs – long central to Quinn’s work – returned in both romantic and graphic forms, reinforcing the contrast between refinement and spectacle.
The collection also played with tension. Lavish dresses were paired with sleek gloves and glossy boots, giving the clothes a more provocative edge and preventing the glamour from feeling overly nostalgic.
By the time Helena Christensen closed the show, the message was clear: Quinn was not trying to reinvent his identity. Instead, he was refining the strengths that have made him one of London Fashion Week’s most recognizable names.
