Wooyoungmi‘s Fall/Winter 2025 collection marks a return to elegance by blending traditional tailoring with youthful flair. This season, the designer sought to redefine sophistication for the modern era, creating pieces that honor classic sensibilities while embracing contemporary attitudes.
The runway showcased slim suits in classic menswear fabrics, lustrous silks and tweeds. Jackets featured elongated lines with cinched waists, accentuating the silhouette in a way that felt both timeless and fresh. Removable 3D floral appliqués adorned these garments, adding a delicate touch symbolizing the gesture of presenting flowers.
Traditional coats appeared in traditional fabrics but were enlivened with vibrant shearling lapels, adding a dash of daring to familiar forms. Cropped jackets echoed the spirit of the 1970s, emphasizing the waistline and introducing one of the collection’s standout elements: reimagined long johns. Elevated to the status of fashion statements, these undergarments peeked out from the waistline and cuffs, adding a layer of intrigue to each ensemble.
The color palette delved into rich browns, deep burgundies and lush forest greens. Patterns inspired by minhwa, traditional Korean folk art, were thoughtfully incorporated, either lining the inside of coats or prominently displayed on quilted outerwear and ski pants. This homage to folk art added depth and cultural resonance to the collection.
Sportswear influences emerged through pieces such as padded ski pants in lustrous burgundy hues. These designs exemplified the designer’s skillful blend of elegance with functional, athletic elements. Knitwear also played with contrasts; floral jacquard motifs adorned sweaters, while other pieces featured bold graphic stripes reminiscent of après-ski wear.
Accessories complemented the garments with a mix of formality and playfulness. Narrow woollen scarves, reminiscent of ties, suggested a sophisticated touch, while chunky mittens – joined by a thread and draped from the sleeves – evoked the nostalgic comfort of childhood.
Set in the opulent surroundings of the Hôtel de Maisons, once a residence of Karl Lagerfeld, the presentation underscored the collection’s commitment to elegance. Wooyoungmi aimed to rekindle an appreciation for dressing well, not just in appearance but as an expression of inner grace.
