In today’s world, we are constantly bombarded with images filtered through screens and algorithms, which can make it difficult to separate reality from fantasy. This disconnect between images and reality is something that fashion designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren of the brand Viktor & Rolf have explored in their latest haute couture collection.
Their Spring/Summer 2023 collection, which took inspiration from the absurdity of the images we see on our phones, aimed to challenge the traditional stereotypes of couture gowns by adding a touch of the impossible. The designers achieved this by creating dresses that seemed to defy gravity, with one dress appearing to fly off the body and another resting on the hips upside-down.
To bring these impossibilities to life, the designers combined the traditional techniques of couture with the use of 3D printing to create the structures of the gowns. They also employed advanced calculations to ensure that the dresses were not only visually stunning, but also wearable. This technical mastery allows the models to glide elegantly around the room in the creations.
The Viktor & Rolf haute couture collection is not just a product, it is an art form that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in fashion. It is a reminder that even in a world where images are constantly manipulated and altered, there is still a place for the real, the tangible and the impossible.
