The Rodarte Spring/Summer 2025 collection is a captivating exploration of organic textures and innovative design that reflects a deep connection to nature while embracing a modern sensibility. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy found inspiration in the captivating hues of California’s golden hour, allowing the inherent beauty of their chosen fabrics to guide the silhouettes.

Lace takes center stage, its intricate patterns dictating the structure of numerous garments. Abandoning their usual method of manipulating fabrics to fit their vision, the Mulleavy sisters instead surrendered to the lace’s natural tendencies. This approach resulted in garments that appear to drape effortlessly, highlighting the delicate nature of the fabric. For example, a simple white dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves and elongated lace sleeves embodies this philosophy. Similarly, a straight-cut, strapless black lace top paired with a flowing asymmetrical skirt further demonstrates the beauty of simplicity.

The collection also features a compelling interplay of textures. One standout piece pairs a geometric lace pattern reminiscent of Southwestern designs with floral lace that resembles delicate crochet. This juxtaposition of patterns creates a visually arresting effect while maintaining a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic. Metallic linen, used in dresses with subtle button-up sleeves and small collars in warm sunset pinks and yellows, as well as a fitted tailored jacket and mermaid skirt in shimmering gold, adds an unexpected element of glamour. Under the light, these metallic fabrics transform, evoking the look of liquid metal or shiny PVC.

Further demonstrating the designers’ penchant for unexpected combinations, a black cotton eyelet dress adorned with white sequins presents a striking contrast of textures. Similarly, a black silk embroidered dress punctuated with white cotton panels resembling crochet work creates a visually captivating bird motif. These imaginative pairings highlight the Mulleavy sisters’ ability to seamlessly blend disparate elements to create truly unique and memorable pieces.
