24-year-old designer Charles de Vilmorin, one of the finalists for this year’s edition of the LVMH Prize for Young Designers, and one of the rising stars of Paris fashion in just 18 months, debuted on the runway for Rochas.

With a varied narrative – first showcasing a color palette and designs embodying flames (there were short and long plissé lamé dresses in shades of red and black and a knee-length red-and-orange number whose arms were traced by a wide band of winglike ruffles), then juxtaposing with de Vilmorin’s own drawings, and then in yet more contrast featuring deconstructed garments with rips and sliced pieces – the collection took twists and turned fit for a jaunt in an edgy yet elegant wonderland.
“The Rochas universe is more sophisticated and feminine. We tried to bring in a touch of techno, a manga spirit. I’m giving it my own spin”, de Vilmorin said.
