Lorenzo Serafini, the designer behind Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, has departed from his typical approach of drawing from the past for his latest designs. In an interview, Serafini discussed how he thinks the fashion industry should embrace the future with optimism, instead of constantly looking back. He explains that it’s time to create fresh muses, rather than relying on old inspirations.
Serafini’s Fall/Winter 2023 line showcases a noticeable change in his design approach – a move towards sophisticated and mature allure, while still maintaining the brand’s romantic aesthetic. He calls the line Chic Érotique, emphasizing that the attitude is gentle and more sensual, less sexual. The line opens with tailored coatdresses cinched at the waist, resembling a man’s suit jacket, blending prim and sexy. Serafini also introduced corset tops and pants, a trendy pairing this season, and halter-neck tops paired with tailored trousers.
The designs, with a Studio 54 vibe, exude a feminine energy, reminiscent of steamy 1970s French dramas like “Story of O” and “Emmanuelle“. The show, with its vegan leather, sequined gowns, and Sylvie Vartan disco anthem, was a celebration of sensuality hidden beneath the surface.
Serafini’s collection, with their minimalist color and embellishment, align with the current trend in fashion for simplicity. The clothes, with their timeless appeal, have the potential to become future classics and remain popular for years to come.
