British designer Molly Goddard, who has become one of the most established and exciting names in British fashion in recent years, took over the Seymour Leisure Centre in West London to present her Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
“I was thinking about red carpets pre-internet”, said Goddard in the official show notes. “These are images I love and often go to for inspiration, dressing felt more for the party and for yourself. Much more casual, laid back. No step and repeat and no posing. People looked like they were out to have fun”.
Known for her voluminous designs, Goddard delivered a collection that sparked interest and dimension with strategic layering: dresses over pants. For example, off-the-shoulder, bubble-hemmed mini dresses were layered over cropped slacks featuring fun pastoral prints of bunnies, mice, and foliage.
Elsewhere, strapless dresses were made from durable calico and cotton and paired with fabulous colorful cowboy boots, creating a formal/casual mix. And let’s not forget the designer’s signature voluminous tulle dresses and skirts in a cornucopia of wonderful colors – vibrant lilacs, lime greens, strawberry pinks and tangerines – cleverly layered with shrunken cardigans or over skin-tight printed dresses.
As for the men’s wear, it featured cropped cuts, some with ruffles; brightly colored aran knit hoodies; and a nicely gathered high-waisted bomber.
