Maison Margiela held an open house event at its new five-story headquarters on the Place des États-Unis in Paris, showcasing its latest collection, a punk-romantic “Co-Ed” collection.
The collection was inspired by the subcultural spirit of the 1970s and 1980s in London, the youth of creative director John Galliano, but updated for the present, and featured references to various subcultures such as punk, the King’s Road, and the French Revolutionaries, using materials like trash bags, tulle, and photocopied flyers as invitations. It was a blend of different styles and references, including punk tartan and Americana, with a focus on layering and customization.
The event also featured the brand’s atelier located in the basement of the new building, showcasing Galliano’s past “Artisanal” couture theater and film extravaganza, ‘’Cinema Inferno’’. The atelier serves as the brand’s creative nerve center where all collections are developed and produced.
