Nicolas Ghesquière celebrates a decade at Louis Vuitton with a Spring/Summer 2025 collection that revisits the Renaissance, a period close to his heart due to his upbringing in France’s Loire Valley.
This Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2025 collection was a masterful blend of historical inspiration and modern innovation. Ghesquière’s designs, as seen on the runway, offered a fresh perspective on classic silhouettes. Puffed sleeves, cinched waists and peplum hems were paired with contemporary biker shorts and chunky sandals, creating a compelling dialogue between past and present.
The collection emphasized fluidity and lightness, a departure from traditional heavier constructions. Jackets were designed to feel like blouses and coats resembled robes, all in luxurious silks and lightweight fabrics. This approach allowed for a dynamic interplay of structure and movement, a concept Ghesquière referred to as “soft power.” Intricate embellishments, such as cabochons on loose-fitting tops and sheer pantaloons, added a touch of opulence and blurred the lines between daywear and evening wear.
A collaboration with French artist Laurent Grasso resulted in a series of unique jackets featuring Grasso’s paintings, further enhancing the artistic depth of the collection. Ghesquière also introduced a new, more casual handbag designed for everyday use that contrasts with the more elaborate pieces in the collection. This bag, seen in the first two looks, embodies the same “soft power” that is evident throughout the collection. The Petite Malle, a miniature trunk bag, was reimagined in ten new variations for the season, highlighting Ghesquière’s ongoing exploration of Louis Vuitton’s heritage. These bags were presented on a remarkable runway constructed from over 1,000 suitcases, a testament to the brand’s rich history.
This innovative presentation underscored Ghesquière’s ability to bridge the gap between the past and the future of fashion. Ghesquière’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection for Louis Vuitton is a sophisticated exploration of historical influences and contemporary design, demonstrating his continued ability to push creative boundaries while honoring the brand’s legacy.
