Lanvin Spring 2027 is Peter Copping’s collection for the historic French fashion house. The collection was presented during Paris Fashion Week. Its main palette includes navy, black, white, red and khaki. A new Hobo bag features an archival Lanvin Haute Couture button dating from 1936.

Lanvin has spent much of the past decade facing a difficult question: how can a house with such a recognizable past establish a convincing present? Lanvin Spring 2027 suggests that Peter Copping is answering that question by narrowing his focus rather than trying to invent an entirely new identity.

The designer has extensive material to work with. Jeanne Lanvin established a vocabulary built around sophisticated dressmaking, decoration and an understanding of how women wanted to dress. Decades later, Alber Elbaz gave the house another strongly defined period between 2001 and 2015. His approach made femininity feel personal and contemporary rather than dependent on historical quotation.

For Copping, those different eras create both an opportunity and a problem. Ignoring them would make little sense, but reproducing them too closely would leave little room for his own work. Spring 2027 takes a more selective approach to the archive.

Earlier collections under Copping referred more directly to Lanvin’s 1920s and 1930s vocabulary, including the robe de style, Art Deco geometry and the house’s familiar blue. This season is less concerned with reconstructing a particular decade. Instead, it concentrates on proportion, construction, texture and the relationship between fabric and the body.

That shift gives the collection greater clarity.

The silhouette is notably long and controlled. Dresses extend close to the floor, while jackets are shaped with enough precision to give definition without appearing severe. Asymmetrical draping interrupts otherwise clean forms, and volume is introduced selectively rather than used as an overall effect.

Tailoring plays a central role, but it is not treated as conventional office dressing. Jackets sit alongside softer fabrics, close-fitting knitwear and dresses that expose parts of the back. The contrast makes the wardrobe more adaptable and prevents formal pieces from becoming too rigid.

Lace is another important addition to Copping’s Lanvin vocabulary. Transparent sections and delicate applications allow skin to become part of the composition without turning exposure into the main subject. Open backs follow the same principle. They add sensuality through carefully placed absence rather than extensive decoration.

Ribbons provide a more direct link to the house’s decorative history. Grosgrain details appear on knitwear and other pieces, used as both construction and ornament. This is one of the collection’s more effective archival gestures because it does not require the viewer to recognize a specific historical reference.

The restrained color range also supports the emphasis on shape and surface. Black, white and navy establish most of the collection, while red adds stronger contrast and khaki introduces a less precious note. The result is graphic but not visually crowded.

Copping also looks beyond the fashion archive. Lanvin has cited French interior designer Andrée Putman as an influence for the season. Her preference for controlled geometry, contrast and disciplined interiors helps explain the collection’s sharper forms and reduced decorative language.

Accessories continue the same approach. The new Hobo bag has a relaxed shape and is offered in materials including nappa leather and suede. Its clasp uses a Haute Couture button from Lanvin’s 1936 archive, making the historical connection unusually concrete. Gold heels, geometric jewelry, ballerina flats and menswear-influenced sandals extend the wardrobe without distracting from the clothes.

What emerges from Lanvin Spring 2027 is not a dramatic reinvention. It is a more careful definition of what the house can retain and what it can simplify. Copping treats heritage as working material rather than as an instruction manual.

That distinction matters. Lanvin does not need to reproduce Jeanne Lanvin or Alber Elbaz to prove its history. Spring 2027 instead shows a house trying to make that history useful again.
