Lanvin, the storied French fashion house, has opened a special pop-up in Cannes just ahead of the film festival. This temporary boutique, located at 65 Boulevard de la Croisette, marks a significant return to the French Riviera for Lanvin. Jeanne Lanvin, the brand’s founder, opened a boutique in the same area in the early 1920s.

The new 710-square-foot (66 m2) space is strategically located in front of the Miramar Hotel and just steps away from the former Royal Hotel, where Jeanne Lanvin first set up shop. Siddhartha Shukla, Lanvin’s deputy general manager, emphasized the importance of this return, citing the prime location and the brand’s historic ties to Cannes. “This is a return to Cannes for Lanvin after a century-long absence. It has meaning. And as it always is with real estate, this was about seizing a fantastic opportunity to come back in a prime location on La Croisette,” he said.

Lanvin’s pop-up concept is inspired by the transatlantic liner Normandie, which first set sail in 1935. Jeanne Lanvin once hosted a couture presentation on the ship’s maiden voyage. This maritime theme is reflected in the boutique’s design, with nautical touches and Art Deco influences. The use of wood, white and blue tones, along with restored vintage photographs of Normandie, create an immersive experience reminiscent of the sea and sky.

The boutique features deep blue Italian parquet flooring, weathered patina furniture, and round windows reminiscent of yacht portholes. Lighting and mirrors are also inspired by the Normandie’s original furnishings. Some areas of the boutique remain unfinished, hinting at the upcoming expansion into a permanent two-story location, which is scheduled to open in early 2025.

The pop-up will feature Lanvin’s Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2024 collections, as well as a capsule of evening gowns and tuxedos for last-minute red carpet needs. The brand’s classic Pencil Cat bags and a limited-edition collection of accessories made from deadstock fabrics will also be available.

To celebrate the opening, Lanvin will co-host a private dinner with film and fashion dealmaker Charles Finch. The event will honor director Paul Schrader, whose film “Oh, Canada” is in competition this year, and coincide with the launch of the latest issue of Finch’s film magazine, A Rabbit’s Foot. In addition, Lanvin will offer commemorative postcards featuring Jeanne Lanvin’s original sketches for her Cannes collections.
