Silvia Venturini Fendi and Kim Jones headed to New York to present FENDI’s Resort 2023 (Cruise 2023) collection and celebrate the 25th anniversary of its iconic Baguette bag.
It’s been years since New York has seen a fashion show as big as Fendi’s show. The choice of the Big Apple is as much for economic reasons – the American luxury market is growing, after more than two years of pandemic-related sluggishness. FENDI is one of the many European brands to be present this season in New York. Some to walk the runway, others to inaugurate their new stores – that to cultural reasons (the Baguette bag made an appearance in the famous series ‘’Sex and the City’’ – so, of course, Sarah Jessica Parker was at the show).
“I didn’t want to do a traditional ‘collection’ for the anniversary. Rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun – both qualities the Baguette possesses”, explained Kim Jones, Fendi women’s designer.
And to further this “New York-y vibe”, Kim Jones invited Marc Jacobs, former Louis Vuitton creative director and key-figure of New York fashion, as well as iconic New York jeweler Tiffany & Co., newly added to the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton brands family. The former created ten looks, playing with logomania including FendiRoma in block letter intarsias on sweaters, tracksuits and trucker jackets, while the latter enriched Baguettes bags with silver charms and even created a handmade solid sterling silver Baguette.
“There’s a lot of depressing things happening in the world, so I thought it was good to have a bit of fun. I wanted to combine those three things (Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Tiffany, editor’s note), and it’s quite playful and celebratory”, Jones told Vogue.
