Thirteen years after his debut, Australian designer Dion Lee, winner of the prestigious International Woolmark Prize in 2012, has become an established fixture on the New York fashion calendar. His singular voice and influence was reinforced with this new Spring/Summer 2023 collection, which he presented on an empty floor of the new Hudson Commons building at Hudson Yards in the heart of Manhattan, with stunning views of the city’s rooftops.
Incredibly sexy, seductive and precise, his clothes are made to fit the body, enhancing the wearer’s shape and form. “I like to place things on the body in a way that relates to the structure of our form”, said the 36-year-old designer.
Mesh tops, often sheer and asymmetrically cut, flesh-colored technical garments crafted in intricate weaves, form-fitting knits as well as wide, elongated bottoms – many worn with harnesses – provide a glimpse into a cool, very cool wardrobe that Dion Lee is known for.
