A giant, red photo-call placed in front of the Théâtre du Châtelet had all trappings of a red-carpet Hollywood movie premiere: photographers screaming and baying; flashes crackling; the familiar Balenciaga tribe of Demna Gvasalia’s house models, lining up to pose in character as celebrities and mingling with real celebrities (Isabelle Huppert, Lewis Hamilton, Cardi B, Offset…) who were waiting for to be photographed. All this surprising scene was broadcasted live on a large screen installed inside the Théâtre du Châtelet where the usual public of the fashion shows were seated who watched, amused, this perfectly orchestrated staging before the real screening of the short film Les Simpsons / Balenciaga, in which Marge, Bart, and citizens of Springfield were flown to Paris to model the latest collection.

Back to the collection: this one presented the full range of Balenciaga, combining a wardrobe of streetwear, daywear, tailoring, elegant eveningwear and proto-couture pieces. Silhouettes varied from ultra-slim to disproportionately oversized, in a predominantly black palette. Balenciaga’s collaboration with Crocs continued as well, this time in a “punk” iteration, sitting on a thick platform drilled with silver nails and bolts.
