Balenciaga, the celebrated Paris-based fashion house, has marked a significant milestone with the opening of its first store in India, positioning itself at the epicenter of Asia’s emerging luxury market. As the economic landscape shifts and China experiences a slowdown, India is quickly emerging as the next big thing in luxury, and Balenciaga is keen to cement its presence in this vibrant landscape.
Located in the heart of Mumbai, the new Balenciaga store is situated on the ground floor of the Jio World Plaza, a shopping mall that has quickly become a destination for luxury enthusiasts. The store proudly showcases a comprehensive range of Balenciaga offerings, including the coveted men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, an exquisite selection of footwear, bags and accessories, as well as eyewear and jewelry lines.
With its distinctive “raw architecture” concept, the new Balenciaga store is a testament to the brand’s innovative approach to retail design. With a clear focus on sustainability, the store features design elements that celebrate the beauty of the existing structure, revealing its inner workings and history. This not only aligns with Kering’s commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint, but also ensures the use of fewer virgin materials in the store’s construction.

Upon entering the store, visitors are greeted by a visual feast of design elements that blur the lines between the rough and the refined. Brushed concrete floors mimic the aesthetic of city sidewalks, while white walls provide a clean, minimalist backdrop. Polished metal shelving, aluminum tables and industrial lighting add to the store’s contemporary vibe, creating an ambiance that is both raw and luxurious. To complete the look, faux leather banquettes, artfully aged to give the appearance of wear, dot the space, adding a touch of edgy sophistication.
In addition to the Balenciaga store, Jio World Plaza is home to a host of other luxury brands such as Cartier, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Jimmy Choo and Rimowa.
