Alberta Ferretti’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, “After Dark Blooms“, showcased the designer’s signature feminine style with a touch of unexpected twists. The collection was inspired by a nocturnal garden and opened with a strapless gown made from suiting fabric in a boardroom gray color. This choice of fabric, a tailor’s material, was a departure from the usual dressmaker’s fabrics Ferretti is known for, but she explained that she wanted to capture a sense of eccentric femininity.
Ferretti has been a dominant force in the fashion world for over four decades and has established a reputation for her delicate and pretty party dresses. In recent years, she has expanded her offerings to include casual daywear and outerwear, incorporating shearling into her designs this season in a bold and confident way.
The designer truly shines when she showcases her light touch, evident in pieces such as a scarlet red velvet slip dress with flounces at the hips that accentuated its hourglass shape, or a black jumpsuit with a twist and sash at the waist.
Lingerie dressing has been a persistent trend in fashion and Ferretti, who is known for her expertise in this area, closed the show with a series of sheer black slips in lace, mesh, and jet-embellished net. The highlights of the lingerie section were the looks that incorporated sheer elements with tailored pieces, creating a boudoir-ish vibe without going all-out naked dressing.
