To celebrate its tenth anniversary of fashion shows in Paris, Acne Studios organized a romantic evening at the Palais de Tokyo.
“I wanted to do a show that celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Acne Studios in Paris, and the most iconic event I could come up with was a wedding. I find weddings fascinating because they are always a melting pot, and they kickstart a lot of aesthetic choices”, creative director and co-founder Jonny Johansson shared in a press release. “There’s something cute, kitschy, sweet about weddings – but also something serious, tense, and vulnerable. I wanted to put a spin on the classic, kitschy wedding, referencing everything from the tablecloth to the chandelier, the wedding-night bedsheets, the bride’s shoe, the bows, and the cute flowers. And I wanted to counterbalance the archetypes of formalwear with playful touches – opening up a blazer to show what’s underneath, or adding a small flower to a dress because it’s poetic”.
The Palais de Tokyo’ spaces were tinged with candy pink with beds draped in shimmering pink silk sheets while the show was punctuated by the live musical performance of the group LEYA & Eartheater.
Inspired by Johansson’s nuptial memories, the Spring/Summer 2023 collection featured the brand’s most dressed-up collection with draped, peekaboo sheer lace gowns and tops, minidresses with puffy hearts trapped in tulle or in jersey ruched into a single heart at the chest; grungy knit sets with stiff, bouncing hems; blazers with cutaway rosette bra tops, even a set of pink satin bow pasties.
The bow motif was present throughout the collection, whether submerged behind a delicate layer of tulle or inflated into knotted bed sheets that compose an entire dress. This layering concept was used throughout the garments, while ever-romantic roses were delicately placed on belts and heart shapes served as the nucleus of dramatically ruched dresses.
