The French fashion label Coperni has ceased operations after its founders failed to resolve a prolonged dispute with Tomorrow London Group, the company’s majority shareholder and exclusive distributor. The announcement, made on November 4th, 2026, brings an end to the label’s current activities and raises questions about the future of one of Paris fashion’s most recognizable independent names.
Co-founders Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer confirmed the decision in a joint statement, explaining that months of negotiations had failed to secure a workable solution. Their efforts to regain control of the business ultimately proved unsuccessful.
The closure concerns Coperni SAS, the French company responsible for the label’s creative and operational activities. The founders did not clarify what would happen to the brand’s intellectual property or whether its name could eventually return under a different structure.

Coperni’s difficulties became increasingly apparent in early 2026, when relations with Tomorrow deteriorated. The London-based fashion development group had held a majority stake in the label since 2019, overseeing its distribution and supporting its commercial expansion.
According to Vaillant, Tomorrow had stopped making payments owed to suppliers and business partners, placing significant pressure on Coperni’s finances.
The founders withdrew from the Fall 2026 Paris Fashion Week schedule as the disagreement escalated. Their decision reflected growing concerns about the company’s ability to finance its collections and maintain normal operations.
In March, Tomorrow was acquired by Progetto 11, the holding company behind Italian e-commerce business The Level Group. The ownership change did not resolve the dispute surrounding Coperni.
On June 11th, 2026, the Paris commercial court granted Coperni judicial protection through receivership proceedings. The measure was intended to provide an opportunity to reorganize the business, protect employees and negotiate a sustainable future.
Despite those efforts, no agreement was reached.

Founded in 2013 and relaunched in 2018, Coperni became known for combining contemporary ready-to-wear with technological experimentation.
Its international recognition grew considerably in 2022, when Bella Hadid appeared at a Paris Fashion Week presentation wearing a dress created directly on her body using spray-on fabric technology.
The label also attracted attention through unconventional accessories, including the Air Swipe Bag, constructed from silica aerogel, an exceptionally lightweight material associated with aerospace research.
Beyond these widely circulated creations, Coperni developed a recognizable approach to clothing, particularly through fitted silhouettes, architectural details and accessories such as its Swipe Bag.
Its collections appealed to consumers interested in contemporary design, while its experimental presentations helped the label reach audiences beyond traditional fashion circles.

The November announcement leaves several questions unanswered, particularly regarding the future ownership of the Coperni name and the possibility of reviving the label.
In their statement, Vaillant and Meyer acknowledged the contributions of employees, factories, retailers, buyers and creative collaborators who supported the business throughout its development.
They also thanked the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode and the wider fashion community.
Although the founders expressed their desire to continue exploring new creative opportunities, they announced no specific professional plans.
Coperni‘s closure illustrates the financial vulnerability that emerging designer labels can face when distribution, investment and operational control depend heavily on external partners.
For now, the company’s activities have ended, while the future of its brand identity and its founders’ next projects remains uncertain.
