For their Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Luke and Lucie Meier offer a poignant reflection on the current global climate, channeling a sense of melancholy and resilience into their designs. Inspired by the stark urban landscapes of Canadian photographer Greg Girard, the collection presents a darker, more powerful vision than the previous season’s focus on femininity.

The Meiers’ color palette draws heavily from Girard’s photographs, with petrol blues, burgundies and iridescent hues evoking the photographer’s signature neon-lit nightscapes. These colors are woven into boxy suits, coats and sleek separates that reflect the sharp lines of urban architecture. The collection’s silhouettes, particularly the generously proportioned double-pleated trousers, subtly reference the 1940s and 1980s, eras known for their bold tailoring.

Despite the somber undertones, the Meiers bring a touch of light and softness to the collection. Hand-crocheted floral embroidery and delicate doily inserts adorn polo shirts and twinsets, while ribbed-knit dresses and sweater sets feature ruffled edges embellished with silver beads. These intricate details, a hallmark of the Meiers’ pre-pandemic work, add a layer of delicate craftsmanship to the collection’s otherwise austere aesthetic.
