“A lamentation for the sorrow in the world today/ And a feeling of wanting to stand together”, designer Rei Kawakubo described her Comme des Garçons collection in her press note, her first show on a Paris runway since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
With its disproportionate volumes and extravagant dresses where leather turned into lace and exploded at the hips and flowers forming a chain on a white base, the Spring/Summer 2023 collection of Rei Kawakubo was an invitation to interpretation.
Every exit revealed a never-seen-before shape; sometimes strange, often beautiful, all executed in beautiful brocades, rich lace and other dressy and ceremonial fabrics.
