Rei Kawakubo designed her latest Comme des Garçons collection based on her present state of mind, rather than a particular theme: to focus on what is left after getting rid of things that she feels are not needed. These include “the making of intricate fabrics, the use of complicated colors, patterns which clearly define the body, [and] details that emphasize the clothes”.

Thus, she explored notions of simplicity, providing us with a typically avant-garde collection that is unique to Kawakubo.
Texture and fabric layers created illusions of pattern, and complicated colourways were replaced with monochromatic or two-tone looks. Dresses were huge and voluminous (bulbous shapes and giant sleeves), distorting the shape of the body and instead resembling cocoon-like cases for the models.
