Rick Owens has always been known to set high standards for himself, and this season was no different. With the world on edge due to the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Owens felt the need to do something respectful and meaningful.
In a recent fashion show, Owens showcased his latest collection, inspired by the works of the legendary photographer, Richard Avedon. The models were dressed in simple yet stunning sequin gowns, paired with big, fluffy donuts. Owens described the collection as simple, with the idea that “simplicity is the most elegant thing I can think of“.
The clothes were austere and inventive, with Owens finding a way to merge puffer jackets with babydoll dresses and to shred denim in such a way that it resembles feathers. The collection was predominantly black, with matte sequins in gold, silver, grape, and pink adding a touch of glamour.
Rick Owens is known for his efforts towards sustainability and this season was no different. He used certified recycled cashmere and polyamide, responsible wool, and vegetal tanning in his collection. In his show notes, Owens emphasized the importance of respecting the world’s current situation and the need for a “respectful formality and sobriety with moments of delicacy as reminders of what is at risk and at stake“.
