Italian luxury fashion house Ferragamo today launches its “Back to Earth” collection, marking Earth Day 2025 with a deep commitment to environmental awareness.
“‘Back to Earth’ is our first capsule dedicated to the Earth. Inspired by the harmony between man and nature, we have fused innovation and heritage, beauty and function, leading a sincere dialogue towards a fashion closer to the wellbeing of people and the Earth that hosts us,” said James Ferragamo, Ferragamo’s Chief Transformation & Sustainability Officer, of this Earth Day initiative.
The Back to Earth collection is inspired by founder Salvatore Ferragamo’s philosophy that “Nature heals every wound when she is given her freedom.” The brand’s eco-conscious roots date back to the 1940s, when wartime shortages led Salvatore Ferragamo to experiment with straw, cork and hemp in his footwear. Decades later, that same ingenuity continues to drive the company. Since the 2018 “Sustainable Thinking” exhibition at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, the brand has made sustainability a central part of its identity.
Today’s collection continues this innovative tradition, with pieces made exclusively in Italy from natural cotton and silk. These fabrics undergo special dyeing processes using marble, earth and vegetable charcoal to create unique colorways while minimizing environmental impact.
The centerpiece of Ferragamo’s Earth Day offering is a reimagined version of the Hug top-handle bag, created during the brand’s first “Circularity Hackathon.” This creative session brought together 60 young Ferragamo talents to rethink iconic pieces through sustainable practices.
The resulting limited-edition Hug features vegetable-tanned leather, certified organic textiles and decorative floral leather inlays that symbolize regeneration. Inspired by Ferragamo’s 1950s modular Kimo shoe design, the bag features a clever reversible, removable interior pouch that allows for personalization and extended use.

Another highlight of the collection is the “Back to Earth” ballerina flat. These elegant shoes feature vegetable-tanned leather uppers paired with natural rubber soles – demonstrating how eco-responsible materials can create timeless, wearable fashion.
Even the packaging reflects this ethos. Recycled paper, cotton and responsibly sourced wood replace traditional materials, proving that luxury and responsibility can coexist.
The “Back to Earth” capsule collection is available today in just 26 boutiques worldwide and can be purchased on the Ferragamo website and in select boutiques in Italy, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates.
