Alexander Wang recently made a much-anticipated comeback to the New York fashion scene with his ‘’Cupid’s Door’’ show. The event, which took place near his headquarters in Chinatown, debuted his Pre-Fall and Fall/Winter 2023 collections for women and relaunched his menswear line. This triple showcase demonstrated that Wang’s unique style – a combination of sophistication and streetwear – remains in full force.
In honor of the month of love, Wang transformed a back alley venue into a romantic and dramatic runway, complete with a double heart-shaped runway formed by cleverly positioned pink drapes, a zebra pattern rug, and synchronized colored lights. The designer kicked off the show with a strong emphasis on outerwear, bringing back the popular chubby fur coat made from faux fur. The coats were paired with python and zebra print pants and skirts, adding a touch of daring to the look.
Wang combined his sporty aesthetic with tailored pieces, featuring boxers peeking out above tailored pants, a strap-only bra, and frilly satin slip dresses. Sheer separates offered glimpses of lingerie, while oversized suit jackets and vests were given a dramatic twist with shimmer.
The men’s collection was focused on casual wear, with hoodies, chubby fleece, and python overalls taking center stage. Despite the relaxed vibe, hints of daring were evident, with one male model appearing bare-chested with sweatpants hanging low. For the finale, Wang showcased a group of women’s evening wear pieces, featuring bodices and booties adorned with fringe in the shape of a heart, exploring the romantic symbol.
