The adidas Treadflow represents a groundbreaking shift for indoor runners everywhere. The German sportswear giant has launched what they claim to be the first running shoe engineered specifically for treadmill use.

Indoor running has exploded in popularity in recent years. Gym membership numbers continue to climb, and unpredictable weather keeps more athletes indoors. The Treadflow addresses this growing market with targeted innovations.
Patrick Nava, VP of Product at adidas Running, explained the brand’s motivation: “As pioneers in the running space, we are constantly innovating to support our entire running community. Recognizing the surge in treadmill running, we set out to create the first-ever shoe designed specifically for this unique environment. By combining our understanding of treadmill runners’ needs with our performance-focused technologies, we’ve created a shoe that provides dual cushioning, 360-degree breathability, and traction for an enhanced treadmill experience.“

The Treadflow features three core technologies. The CLIMACOOL upper material creates what Adidas describes as built-in air conditioning. Light open mesh zones wrap around the foot to deliver constant airflow in stuffy gym environments.

Breathability extends beyond the upper. Strategic outsole cut-outs provide additional ventilation when the foot strikes the treadmill belt. This addresses a common complaint among indoor runners: overheating feet.
Cushioning receives special attention through dual-midsole technology. The shoe incorporates Lightstrike and Lightstrike Pro foams, both of which are found in adidas’ record-breaking Adizero range. These materials work with the treadmill’s existing cushioning rather than against it.

Traction presents unique challenges on moving belts. The LIGHTTRAXION outsole provides grip while maintaining minimal weight. This prevents the heavy feeling that can develop during longer treadmill sessions.
The color options reflect the brand’s understanding of its audience. Women have the “Halo Mint/Mint Ton/Lucid Lemon” colorway. Men have the “Mint Ton/Pure Teal/Powder Teal” option. Both palettes are fresh and appropriate for the gym.
An accompanying apparel range features the same CLIMACOOL technology. Together, they create a complete ecosystem for treadmill runners seeking maximum comfort.

The adidas Treadflow will launch on September 1, 2025. It will be available on adidas.co.uk, the adidas app, and in select retail stores. Pricing details remain unannounced.
