As the 2023 Met Gala draws near, themed “In Honor of Karl“, Vogue US pays tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld’s illustrious career with a special cover for the May 2023 issue photographed by Annie Leibovitz at the iconic Grand Palais in Paris.
The issue features ten of Lagerfeld ‘’loved most’’, including Anok Yai, Shalom Harlow, Kendall Jenner, Liu Wen, Adut Akech, Natalia Vodianova, Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta, Gigi Hadid and Devon Aoki. The late designer’s beloved cat, Choupette, also stars in the captivating photoshoot.
Karl Lagerfeld’s influence on a generation of creatives is evident, as ten leading designers reinterpret his visionary works into new designs. The tribute issue includes high praise from Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino, Thom Browne, Donatella Versace, Jun Takahashi of Undercover, Christopher John Rogers, John Galliano of Maison Margiela, Olivier Rousteing of Balmain, Chitose Abe of Sacai, Gucci and Simone Rocha.
Alex Harrington expertly styles the shoot, with hair by Jawara and make-up by Fara Homidi. Mary Howard’s set design completes the stunning homage to Lagerfeld’s iconic style.
