LVMH has launched Prélude by Kevin Germanier, a new luxury brand dedicated to upcycling. This innovative venture, spearheaded by the French renowned fashion conglomerate, aims to redefine the boundaries of eco-conscious design while maintaining impeccable quality.
Swiss designer Kevin Germanier, a graduate of Central Saint Martins and a pioneer in the field of upcycling, is the creative director of Prélude. His expertise in transforming discarded materials into avant-garde pieces has earned him acclaim from industry insiders and celebrities alike. Known for his vibrant colors and intricate embellishments, Germanier’s designs have graced red carpets and editorial spreads, worn by fashion-forward icons such as Björk and Lady Gaga.
Prélude’s debut collection showcases a range of techniques that push the boundaries of sustainable design. By collaborating with Nona Source, a platform for sourcing surplus fabrics, and weturn, an innovative start-up, Prélude ensures that every piece in the collection meets the highest standards of sustainability without compromising on style or quality.
“Prélude is highlighting the development of new skills, enabling an unprecedented level of creativity to be achieved,” stated LVMH.
The collection’s outstanding techniques include cutting fabric in strips to weave new textiles, unraveling garments for re-knitting, and exploring the artistry of crochet. These methods allow for the creation of truly unique pieces while maintaining the anonymity of the original products.
With its minimalist, back-to-basics approach, Prélude achieves a harmonious and elevated aesthetic using single threads or strips of fabric. This innovative methodology not only reduces waste, but also opens new avenues for creative expression within the fashion industry.
