The collection was captured in an emotive film, highlighting Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, and Amber Valletta, shot by Luca Guadagnino – the ‘’Call Me by Your Name’’ director. “I have long admired Luca’s work – and, he is someone who, like [Pier Paolo] Pasolini, touches on subjects which are relevant to now”, Jones shared in a press release.
The Fendi Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2021 collection was a tribute to Rome, with plenty of references to the cinematography style of the late Pier Paolo Pasolini, another Italian director, poet and writer.
All throughout, the Roman inspiration was clear. Roman mosaic was expressed in knitwear, jackets, bags and shoes. Swirls of floral embroidery and lace punctuated select garments as modern interpretations of Corinthian Order column volutes. The heels on the shoes were miniature renditions of Rome’s Ionic Order volutes and rounded-arch bridges, while painted ceramic pieces like excavated artefacts, were framed in gold and formed the bodice of a dress.
