A.W.A.K.E. Mode, the fashion brand founded by designer Natalia Alaverdian, has always been known for its unique blend of cutting-edge design and timeless elegance.
For her latest collection, Alaverdian took inspiration from the iconic sounds of Vangelis and the aesthetic of Ridley Scott’s 1982 film, “Blade Runner“. The result was a lineup of sophisticated, yet daring pieces that pay homage to the film’s lead female character, Rachael, played by Sean Young.
The collection was a celebration of tailored silhouettes, with big-shouldered jackets and coats, draped dresses, and long-and-lean knitwear taking center stage. Despite their impeccable tailoring, these pieces were far from stuffy, featuring textures that begged to be touched and inspected up close.
However, the collection also played with the idea of the “uncanny“, with cuts that were cinched just a little too much, heels that were just a bit out of balance, and asymmetries that were intentionally off-kilter. These elements were a nod to the androids in the film, and the instinctive reactions people have to their uncanny resemblance to humans.
One of the standout pieces of the collection were the fluffy trousers, a sub-trend of the season. Alaverdian added these playful elements as a bit of humor, saying, “maybe to warm your butt a little bit, maybe it gets a little scratchy“. After a Paris Fashion Week under a late-winter cold snap, these fluffy trousers were a relatable sentiment for many.
