Creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons have crafted a Prada‘s Spring/Summer 2025 lineup that celebrates the spirit of youth, inviting us to embrace the unexpected and find beauty in the unconventional.
The runway show, set against the backdrop of a small, white, pitched-roof house, immediately sets the tone for the collection. Models emerge from the pulsing light and thumping beats of Faithless’s “Insomnia,” stepping into a world that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy. The collection itself is a masterful display of trompe l’oeil techniques, challenging our perceptions and inviting us to look closer.
At first glance, the garments appear to be well-worn favorites, with painted-on belts, shadowed sweat stains, and warped patterns. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that these effects are intentional, a clever play on the idea of pre-loved clothing. Fitted Breton striped pullovers, colored V-neck knits, and floral shirts all feature unexpected details that keep the eye engaged and the mind questioning.
The collection also plays with proportions, featuring outerwear that seems to have been borrowed from someone more diminutive, perhaps even Miuccia Prada herself. This sense of appropriation adds to the overall theme of youthful experimentation and the freedom to mix and match styles from various sources.
According to Prada and Simons, the collection is meant to embody “youthful optimism” and the “freedom to allow yourself to let things come together and find a way.” The designers have intentionally incorporated elements that are both feminine and masculine, drawing inspiration from the wardrobes of parents and grandparents alike. The result is a collection that feels alive, as if the clothes have already been lived in and loved.
In a world that often feels overwhelmed by grandness and excess, Prada’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection offers a refreshing alternative. By embracing the directness, innocence, and purpose of youthful intent, Prada and Simons have created a lineup that encourages us to let go of overthinking and simply embrace the moment.
