There is something peculiar about the term “sophisticated“. It carries a profound suggestion of cultural aptitude, intricate refinement, and worldly experience, characteristics not distant from the heart of Berluti. The long-established shoe and now broad menswear house, hailing from 1895, are the architects of the unique Scritto relief, a signature so quintessential to the brand that its presence is as unmistakable as the stylish grandeur it bestows. Just this morning, Harold Israel, the vice president of marketing and image at Berluti, showcased his brand loyalty through a Scritto t-shirt, illustrating how this unique signature has permeated the brand’s diverse offerings, including the enticing Berluti Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
The brand’s elegance has been consistently demonstrated in the evolution of its fashion classics. The suede blazer and bomber jacket, presented in shades of tranquil blue and earthly green, were among the star garments of the Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Despite their elevated look, Israel assured these pieces could withstand a drizzle, yet advised a protective measure for one’s investment: a stylishly dark, Scritto parka, inspired by the military M-51.
Suede continued to be a prominent material in this collection, appearing on truckers, chore coats, field jackets, while a gorgeous bonded gabardine raincoat provided a welcome variation. The house’s shift towards garments that embody a sense of sophistication in their casual appearance is nothing short of remarkable. This artful blend was highlighted in a perfectly executed blue garment-dyed linen button-up and camp collar shirts adorned with prints of Berluti products, a delightful nod to the brand’s devotees.
The accessory department received an upgrade, too, particularly in terms of hardware. The double-B, originally an architectural detail from the iron staircase at Berluti‘s Rue Marbeuf property and later a fashionable belt buckle in the 1980s, has been thoughtfully reintroduced in the bags and loafers. Furthermore, the Scritto canvas bag collection welcomed new shapes, and the house patina leather bags introduced soft, gold-hued versions.
The collection also brought an exciting hint towards the brand’s future. Following the success of Berluti’s recent venture into golfwear, the house is now contemplating a first, highly exclusive foray into activewear, details of which will be revealed in the months ahead. As always, there is no rush at Berluti – sophistication, after all, takes time.
